Intro

The portable crankshaft grinder is a lightweight, clamp-on grinding unit for reconditioning large diesel engine crankshafts in place, without lifting the crankshaft out of the engine block. It is built for marine engine rooms, power-plant generator halls and other sites where sending the crankshaft to a shop machine is impractical.

Core Capability

The grinding head self-centers on the journal or crankpin using interchangeable adaptor rings, then orbits the pin surface under motor drive while the operator controls infeed with a graduated micrometer dial. It removes scoring, ovality and minor wear directly on board, restoring the journal to a usable round profile without engine disassembly.

Workpiece Range

Designed for main journals and crankpins on marine diesel main/auxiliary engines, stationary power-plant generator crankshafts, and other large bore engines from Ø80mm up to Ø500mm. A set of adaptor rings lets one unit cover several diameters without buying a separate machine for each.

Repair Scope

Suited to correcting scoring, scratching, out-of-round wear and minor taper on a journal that is otherwise structurally sound. Roundness after grinding is typically 0.01–0.02mm, which meets most classification-society reconditioning tolerances, though it will not match the finish of a shop CNC crankshaft grinder on a removed shaft.
