Choosing the Right Grade

Buying an ultra-precision machine for IT7 parts adds cost without improving the result, and installing one in an uncontrolled shop can fail to deliver its rated accuracy. Matching grade to tolerance and environment usually gives a better return than specifying the tightest machine available.

What Limits Precision in Production

Typical limits are blank straightness, residual stress in hardened parts, workshop temperature drift over a shift, coolant temperature and the measuring method. We include thermal compensation and coolant temperature control on the higher grades to reduce the first three.

• Q: Can an ultra-precision machine hold its accuracy in an ordinary workshop?
• A: It will perform better than a general machine but may not reach its rated figures without temperature control and an isolated foundation, so we state the workshop requirements up front.

• Q: Why does measurement matter so much?
• A: A gauge that is only as accurate as the tolerance cannot confirm the result; a rule of thumb is a measuring system ten times finer than the tolerance being checked.

• Q: Can you prove accuracy before we order?
• A: Yes, we can grind your sample part and report results with the inspection method agreed with you in advance.

• Q: What is the typical lead time?
• A: General and high-precision machines typically ship in 60–90 days, ultra-precision models in 90–130 days.
