Intro

The face grinding machine is built for flat, parallel end-face grinding on rings, washers, discs and shaft shoulders, where flatness and parallelism — or perpendicularity to a bore or OD reference — matter as much as the part's diameter.

A rotary table holds the part on a magnetic chuck or fixture while a cup or segmented wheel grinds the face flat, either as a single face pass or with the part flipped for the opposite side, suited to parts where face-to-face parallelism or face-to-bore perpendicularity is a called-out drawing tolerance.

Chuck type (magnetic, vacuum or mechanical fixture) is selected based on your part material and thickness — non-ferrous or thin-wall parts often need a different holding method than standard magnetic chucking.

Workpiece Range

Grinds rings, washers, discs, spacers and shaft shoulder faces from Ø20–500mm and 2–100mm thick, in hardened steel, cast iron and (with the right fixture) non-ferrous metals. Flatness typically holds to ≤0.003mm with parallelism ≤0.005mm between the two faces of a part.

Single vs. Two-Face Work

Standard operation grinds one face at a time, with the part flipped for the second face; a double-disc option (see the compound and CNC face grinding pages) grinds both faces simultaneously for higher-volume production where flipping the part is not practical.
